Best Fainting
For my birthday, Mary got me a gym membership. I am glad my wife is practical like that. I was totally not expecting it though. But was really excited to get it. And now that I think about it, it may just be the best present I have ever gotten. I mean if it makes me healthier and I am able to live a few years longer. Wow! Who could beat that?
Anyway, today after work we decided to go to Best Fitness and use our new membership. The gym actually has childcare built in, so we dropped the kids off there and Mary and I went to work out.
I was not familiar with the gym, so I met with a trainer who brought me on a tour. He asked me what my goal was (to get fit, duh) and then steered me towards the elipticals. I tried them for 15 minutes, then he asked me if I wanted to do a quick fitness drill which sounded great to me.
So, he brought me to this area that was sectioned off and had me start doing jumping jacks. After a minute, he told me to do push ups, then after one more minute something else. At seven minutes it happened. I was holding a medicine ball over my head and I told him, "I am not doing so great." Mary walked up to us and saw me just before it happened.
I knew what was happening. This has happened to me before. I was getting weak, and I knew that I did not have much time. So, I crunched down low and leaned against the wall, which (fortunately) I was right next to. Then I blacked out.
I guess I was not out for long. Mary said that I was breathing heavy. The fitness instructor asked if I had asthma or something. Anyway we chalked it up as me going to the gym without eating before hand.
The last time this happened to me was at a gym in Boston. I went to the hospital after and they did lots of tests, but found nothing. From now on I will eat a protein bar before working out.
Geesh, seven minutes. I am so out of shape.
