Basement Update - Week Seven
This week the builders finished the drop-ceiling, laid down the laminate flooring, installed the finished stairs, and did a lot of miscellaneous finish work.
Here you can see the finished stairs complete with side trim. Hmmm wonder what color carpet we should pick.
Through all the builders equipment you can see the new maple flooring which matches the cabinets and (soon to be) bookshelves.
Another picture of the flooring against the cabinets with the newly installed counter. Notice the railing for the stairs too.
Looking from the corner of the basement next to the sliders. Mary and I have been thinking a lot now about the colors for the walls. It is really looking so much better than I ever imagined it would.
Taken from the far wall, the room looks so nice with the new floor. I think the light color really helps brighten the room.
You can see that the drop-celing is mostly installed now. Except for a few missing heating/cooling ducts, it is complete.
Another view across the basement from the wall in front of the furnace.
One more shot of the new drop-ceiling. We put the drop-ceiling on this side so we could access pipes if we ever needed to.
All of the doors and finishing trim are now installed.
The tiles in the bathroom and this closet will probably be installed next week.
I was pleasantly surprised by the finishing work around the sliders. This used to have a cement step in from of it, now it has a really nice enlarged wooden step. It flows into the room very nicely.
You can see the finishing trim around ths sliders and the two side windows. Some day we may replace these sliders with ones that do not have the lattice.
Another really pleasant surprise, they put the trim back up and patched up the floor very nicely in the yellow/red rooms.
A coat or two of paint and our first floor will be good as new.
