Mary left for California yesterday to spend some time with Loly since Parker passed away. I hope Mary is able to help her get through this tough time. I can't imagine how devastated I would be if Mary passed away.
I planned a trip into Boston to keep the kids busy while she was away. We woke up this morning and drove to Dunkin Donuts to grab breakfast for the train ride from Lowell into Boston.
Hmmm, I wonder if I can eat all of the frosting without even puncturing the donut itself?
A couple of days ago, I searched online for stuff to do with the kids while Mary was away. I decided to take them to the Museum of Science. I actually ended up buying a family membership. I think it is a good idea to support a good cause like that. Anyway, after we got to North Station, it was a short walk to the Museum of Science. It was pretty cold and windy though. I am glad I bundled the kids up pretty well.
Robby quickly noticed the Sea Monster books in the Musuem store just after we arrived. I think some day I may get him the big, expensive Sea Monster book.
I also saw this interesting Dinosaur 3-D CD ROM, but somehow abstained from purchasing it even though it only costs $5.
After we got out membership and put our coats in a locker, we headed up to see Sharks 3-D in their 3-D theater. It was pretty cool. It was just a 20 minute show, but it talked about a lot of different sharks and showed some cool 3-D footage of them.
After that the kids explored this hands on area of the museum where they could learn first hand different scientific concepts related to force, gravity, motion etc.
Probably the highlight of our trip was seeing the snakes and lizards exhibit. There were many different species of lizards to see.
Both Robby and Ben liked the snakes most though. Like this great big Boa Constrictor.
We learned about how the milk snake and the coral snake look the same, onyl one of them is poisonous. Now which one was this one again?
Next we grabbed a bite for lunch before heading to Imax to see a great big video about a boy whose father died climbing Mount Eiger and his story about overcoming that haunting past. The movie titled, The Alps was made by the Swiss Travel beaureau and featured some really remarkable footage. The kids were really awed (as was I.)
WATCH OUT! Its a.. it's a.. T-REX!
The kids of course had to see the dinosaurs.
I had never gone to the planetarium at the Musuem of Science before, so I figured we would give that a try. Unfortunately it was fairly underwhelming. It turns out the device (pictured above) that they used to display the images is being replaced by a new nultimillion dollar digital system later this year. So, I took a picture of the old antiquated one. I am hoping the planetarium is much improved next time we visit.
The kids had fun playing in the hands on Discovery Center just before we left. They got to put on these plastic smocks and splash around while I relaxed and enjoyed the entertainment.
