Basement Update - Week Four

This week they finished touching up the drywall. It looks like now the focus will be on finishing. We wil have to pick out colors and flooring pretty soon. Taken from the bottom of the stairs you can see the drywall everywhere has been plastered to smooth out all the surfaces. They put in the two big windows next to the sliders this week. During the day, they really let in quite a bit of sun even though the back faces Northwest. Looking back across you can see the ceiling looks ready to be finished. You can also see the stairs and the wall along the stairs has purple drywall which is resistant to moisture (for the sink.) From the front right corner of the basement, just outside the fuse box closet, you can see a good section of the big room. I was thinking over the weekend, how cool it would be to paint the walls in here a sort of flat color, and then let the kids go nuts, splattering paint everywhere, like an open canvas. Taken from the back corner near the sliders, you can see the big space with all the walls nearly ready for paint. Another one from the corner near the sliders. Taken from the wall near the furnace, you can see the closet awaiting a door and some trim. The drywall guy left the big containers he was using in the closet under the stairs. I think he is pretty much done. The green drywall is water proof I think and the purple drywall is water resistant. Pretty soon, the rest the toilet, sink and vanity will be installed. Another view of the bath/shower. Looking in the bathmroon closet you can see the pipes going into the ejector pump in the floor. Taken from next to the ejector pump looking back at the closet. Looking out the bathroom door. You can see how large the space is looking across the basement from the wall next to the furnace. I think this will add 800 square feet to our house floor plan. Surveying the whole basement from the corner near the sliders. One last view from the corner near the sliders. From the bottom of the stairs looking out towards the new windows. Again looking over the basement from the bottom of the stairs. Looking across from the bottom of the stairs. I have been a bit obsessed lately, thinking about a television for the basement. Mary and I went to Best Buy where I drooled over the 58 inch Panasonic plasma. Of course, it scares me to get anything that nice with the kids. So, I have been looking on Craigslist at slightly smaller used plasmas. I almost pulled the trigger on a 43 inch Pioneer for $1k. Almost. The stairs will soon be finished and carpeted. The drywall guy also re-plastered the wall upstairs that they had to cut up. Looking from the yellow room into the red room. The red room is cluttered with our old couch which will be going downstairs once the basement is finished and the couch is reupholstered. Getting closer each day.
