Something about sleeping in the same room with a newborn. It gives you a super-heightened sense of awareness. I am always afraid that Ben will roll over onto his back and spit up and choke. So, although I am laying in bed with my eyes closed, if I hear the slightest gurgle it makes me wake up and jump out of bed to see if he is still ok. He sleeps in a bassinet by Mary's side of the bed.
This morning I woke up with Robby at his usual quarter past five. Lately, because I have not been getting quality sleep, I go downstairs with Robby and turn on some Barney, sit with him on the couch and doze away for a few extra minutes. This morning I made him an egg and cheese omelette. For some reason, he only ever eats half of mine. When mommy cooks he always seems to eat the whole thing. Mommy is a real good cook, so I guess I understand. I left for work at about 8 this morning, a little later than usual.
At 5 o'clock I had to go to Logan to pick up Bob at the airport. He was flying in direct from Oakland on JetBlue. When I picked him up we went over to Enterprise to pickup a rental car (got the free upgrade - wahoo!) then we went out to dinner at Hugh O'Neils an Irish pub near my work. The food was really pretty good. I ate way too many potatoe wedges. We had a good talk. He is so easy to talk with. He followed my car as I drove home from Malden. I was pretty sleepy and felt pretty close to dozing off a couple of times. When I got home, I hit the sack hard. It was almost midnight - a long day.
