On Monday and Thursday morning I drive Robby to daycare. When he first started there, I worried about him a whole lot. I would drop him off and he would reach for me and cry to me not to leave. When I did leave I would walk out to the lobby and watch him on the video monitor until he quieted down. It was hard. These days he is much better. They have so many things to do there, from playing in the sensory table (this small table they fill up with paint, or water, or sand and toys) to reading, to playing outside on their playground. They have all the best toys there, plus Robby is starting to meet boys and girls his own age. Someday he will have friends and most of them will come from school.
I have vague memories of day care from when I was a child. I remember that there was one room that was down a dark hallway and it was scary there. I remember there was a playground with tires. I remember looking out a window that was very high and seeing leaves. I am not sure how old I was when I was at this place. I wish I knew where this place was, so I could go back and see if I can remember anything.
Things sure change over time.
I believe day care has changed for the better.
